How the calculation works
Savings are added at the end of each month. The effective annual return is converted to an equivalent monthly rate and held constant. Set it to 0% to plan without earnings. Taxes, fees and inflation are excluded; returns are not guaranteed. A zero monthly amount means your existing savings are projected to cover the goal by the deadline. Amounts are displayed to two decimal places; round your monthly deposit up if needed.
Worked example
To save 100,000 in three years with 10,000 already saved and a 0% return, set aside 2,500 each month for 36 months. Starting from zero would require about 2,777.78 per month.
Common question
How much do I need to save each month to reach 100,000 in three years?
With no starting savings and no earnings, divide 100,000 by 36: about 2,777.78 per month. Enter any savings you already have to calculate the remaining monthly amount.
Can I use this for a house deposit or an emergency fund?
Yes. Enter the total you want and your deadline. This calculates the monthly contribution for that target; it does not decide how large your emergency fund or house deposit should be.
What if I already have enough saved?
If your current savings reach the target by the deadline under the assumed return, the monthly contribution is zero. A negative return may mean you need extra deposits to preserve the target balance.
