How the calculation works
Each purchase is weighted by the number of shares bought, with its cash fee added to the invested cost. Unrealized profit compares current value with that cost, before sale fees and taxes. This is an economic average, not a jurisdiction-specific tax cost basis. Do not mix purchases in different currencies or include shares already sold.
Worked example
Buy 10 shares at 100 and 20 at 80, paying 5 per purchase. The total cost is 2,610 for 30 shares: an average of 87. At a current price of 100, unrealized profit is 390.
Common question
Does buying more at a lower price remove my loss?
No. It lowers the average cost while increasing the amount exposed to the investment. Further price declines can increase the total loss.
